Harris Teeter Supermarket (3 blocks) (corner Madison & St. Asaph)  Good quality, large supermarket with lots of prepared foods.   Breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets with tables to eat or takeout.  Includes a pharmacy.

Trader Joe’s (4 blocks) 612 N St. Asaph (703)548-0611   Specialty grocery chain with a variety of signature items, plus produce, wine and beer.  

ABC Liquor Store (4 blocks)   686 N St. Asaph      Only place to buy vodka and other liquor. 

Russian Gourmet Grocery and Deli, 907 Slaters Lane, Alexandria, VA  (703)299-4627. Good selection of marinated mushrooms, eggplant, beets, smoked fish, herring, pelmeni, salads.             Russian speaking owners.   Not in immediate vicinity of hotel but close:   A few minutes by auto or a 15 minute walk.

The Alexandria Visitor Guide has a very large number of restaurants listed. The following is a select list - the ones frequented the most by Joel and Calva Leonard (local residents for 20 years).
The list is restricted to those on or near King Street within 9 blocks of the waterfront. These are in addition to the list of places near the convention hotel. We recommend taking the hotel shuttle or walking.
If driving, you can use the covered parking lots in the downtown area.

Bilbao Baggins  208 Queen St., American.  Cozy restaurant a couple of blocks closer to the convention hotel than those on King Street.   $$
