On this
site you will find detailed current
information about the convention, the hotel,
the theater, places to eat, things to do as
well as registration forms.
We will be updating the information in the
coming months, but here is a preview of BDAA 2016:
Our workshops,
rehearsals, and parties will be held at the Bloomington/Monroe
County Convention Center. Our lodging will be
at the Courtyard
by Marriott which adjoins the Convention Center by
an enclosed walkway. The Convention
Center has given the BDAA the exclusive use of the
facilities for the week, meaning that we can hold
rehearsals, parties, and workshops in rooms that we
want, avoiding the phenomenon of “noise bleed” between meeting
rooms.

Our convention
facilities are just a 7-minute walk from Bloomington’s charming Courthouse
Square with multiple eateries, coffee shops and
brew pubs.
A very walkable
city, which some have compared to Madison, WI,
Bloomington is known as a “foodie” destination with
many ethnic restaurants, farm-to-table eateries,
Saturday and Tuesday farmers markets, and “Food Truck Fridays” with live music. The B-Line Trail,
a 3-mile asphalt jogging and biking trail, runs past our
hotel and is a pleasant way to walk to restaurants and
coffee shops. Five blocks east of our convention
site, the Indiana
University is home of the renowned Jacobs School of Music
and the
Mathers Museum of World Cultures. You’re likely to hear
music just about anywhere in Bloomington, as permits are
not required for street musicians. Of course we
are anticipating the sounds of balalaikas, domras, and
bayans ringing out in July 2016 in more than one
location!

Please visit
this website often for more information about the 2016
convention (which we are also calling a Festival),
including information on transportation (Indianapolis
International Airport is 50 miles/80 km north of
Bloomington), guest artists, workshops, hotel booking
procedures, the concert venue, and other important
planning details. As new information comes in, we will
also be doing “convention blasts” on BDAA
Facebook Page (also linked from the BDAA website) and on the BDAA Youth Facebook page, BDAA
under 40. Thanks,
and see you in Bloomington next summer!
